Update München Displaced // Jewish Hospital

Samuel Piori was born in Poland on May 14, 1946. Liberated from Buchenwald concentration camp he arrived at a DP camp in Innsbruck and from there Föhrenwald DP camp. In 1949 he was treated in the Jewish Hospital in Bogenhausen.

The Jewish Museum Berlin is in possession of many photographs of the Jewish Hospital from the years 1949 to 1950. Piori’s daughter, however, was unable to identify her father in any of them. After 1949, Samuel Piori moved to the DP camp in Stuttgart.

With thanks to Samuel Piori’s daughter for this information and to the Jewish Museum Berlin for kindly providing the pictures.

The exhibition “Munich Displaced. The Surviving Remnant” is a stocktaking on Munich’s post-war history. Much detailed information as well as photos and memorabilia are still missing. In the meantime, visitors, descendants of Displaced Persons (DPs) from Munich and other interested parties have shared their memories with us.
